Lately I've had some problems viewing certain audio/video files. I keep getting a pop-up the says "mmjb.exe needed to open file" and then another pop-up that says "cannot find mmjb.exe" and then "access denied".

I deleted every MuchMusic program I had over a year ago. I don't want to have to download MM jukebox just so I can access video or audio files.

How can I get around this BS?

I'm still running Win98. My problem is that my computer tries to open these files with mmjb.exe. How can I change the association to RealPlayer or Winamp? It's weird. . .most files open in RealPlayer, but some (like Woodsongs.com and the US Open webcast) try to open with mmjb.

Been awhile since I used 98 so this might not be exact but one way is open windows explorer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types. Then scroll down to the extension type you want to change, click the change button and either pick the program you want to open it or click the 'other' button to browse if the program isn't listed.

An optional easier way is provided with some programs, when you download and install them they will offer options to change the associations for you automatically. A lot of audio/video/archiving programs will give you this option.

Some others will actually have an options tab that will do it for you.

Can you right click on the file then select " open with".
Then I think there's a check box to "always open with this.

I've tried the Cointrol Panel/Programs/Add/Remove trick, but it needs MuchMusicUninst.isu to uninstall mmjb.exe.

I don't have the .isu part of mmjb. :silly:

Steve, I have a sledgehammer in the garage. I may reach that point if I can't get rid of mmjb.

Download a program called regcleaner-its only about 500K-read the instructions before using it.Its a really good tool to remove all the registry entries left behind after a uninstall.

Posted that at work ( NT? ) trying to remember '98 at home.
Got home, and I have no "open with" on the right click?
The folder options under start - settings, is the only other way I can see to do it.
Sorry JP, I'm just guessing.

Hey! I can't believe I am going to be able to play this card, being the E-tard that I am: Select the file to open (one left click), hold the shift key down, then right click the file. You should have an "Open With" in the menu that appears!

Not so fast Lou, if he does what I recommended he'll be ahead of the game :) He doesn't need to get rid of mmjb.exe, he just needs to 'associate' those files with the correct executables.

Lou, it didn't work. I got the same old "open" option.

Eddie, When I open Windows Explorer, I have no 'Tools' option.

He means open your "My computer" window then go to tools and folder options, then you should be able to change your file type associations.

Finally got it. 'Folder Options' is on my Start Menu, under 'Settings'.

I should have mentioned that my fix is a one-time thing. JP, if you clicked the file once and it turned blue, you should be able to hold down "Shift" and then right click to get an "Open With" in the resulting drop down. Maybe try just the right shift key (as opposed to the left shift key, not the wrong shift key!). Also, you might be able to right click a file and then click "Properties" and there is a section of the window that says "Opens With" and then there might be a "Change" button near that. That lets you change the program that opens files of that type within that folder, I believe. Anywho, you got it going. I think I would take Eddie's computer advice WAY before I'd take mine! I just hack away at stuff until it works or I am forced to get the sledge out of the garage...
