On my Yam KYB that is a pretty flimsy spring and I always envisioned that the spring is ineffective except to hold the valve shut for initial rebound resistance. I can't envision the shims deflecting unless and untill they have encountered the solid resistance to motion afforded by the cup washer. [/QUOTE]
