MXdN-in-USA rumor swirling in Japan

Racer X contributor Geoff Meyer is reporting on his website www.mxlarge.com that MXdN rights-holder Youthstream is considering holding the Motocross des Nations in the United States in 2007. While the headline "Motocross of Nations heads to America" makes it sound much more solid than the plan really is, Meyer writes:

"Great news for the world motocross scene is the fact that Youthstream are looking at holding the Motocross of Nations in America in 2007. It is understood that next years Motocross of Nations will be held in England, although at this moment the circuit is unknown. Having looked at ways to make America interested in this historical event Youthstream has decided it is time to come the America, and not wait for them to come to us."

Meanwhile, back in America, while Ricky Carmichael continues to be interested in riding the event, reports from his camp are that he will not go unless another top rider like James Stewart or Kevin Windham also attends, and the U.S.-based teams don't want to go unless the race is at least shown on TV in the United States with a reasonable air date (last year's early-October race was shown in mid-December).

"An official press release on this news will be released in the coming days," writes Meyer. "While this news came through as the World Motocross championship were being run in Sugo, Japan, the importance if this happening is huge for both American and European spectators.

"The biggest problem of getting the American team to the Motocross of Nations has been the distance they have to travel. With all the European teams now making the trip to America every two years, it would be difficult to have the American riders not racing in the event."

"Motocross of Nations" sounds so dumb, though. We can understand enough french that they can leave the "des" in there.

oh yeah,

So what excuses will we hear now LOL-and why does the teams care on the air date so much? they should want to participate first and formost-the tv airings isnt the important part.

So whos coming to the UK to watch with me:)

After the way the USA botched it the last time we hosted, and after the AMA failed to send a team last year, the USA should be prohibited from hosting the MXdN for at least 5 years.

A probationary period is in order. If we prove we can send a team 5 years in a row, maybe then we should be eligible to host.

Not sending a team last year was unforgiveable and inexcusable. The AMA should have a list of every pro rider in the country. Starting with RC, go down the list until you can field a team.

I think they would want better air times for better viewing, more viewers may mean outside sponsorship.. I know RC in the past has talked about more riders need too step it up and not be content w/finishing mid pack.. 2 or 3 riders capable of winning week in and week out gets kinda boring too non MX fans.. Plus more viewers would probably mean bigger and more rider contracts..

Exactly. No offence but the USA had their chance and blew it big time.

The USA did not blow it, DORNA and the promoter blew it. If DORNA had stepped up, the MXdN could have been at Glen Helen, where they held whatever race it was they held in place of it.

I think the fact it has riders from every nation should ensure it has decent viewing figures? seems odd we dont have such worries here? and yet the US has more money in MX than most of the world put together, sounds more like getting in the excuses early to me?

I certaintly hope the AMA can get there act together this year and send a decent team to the MXdN this year . My pick would be RC, Windham and Mike Brown for the USA.
