My friends buying habits are shocking to me!

Now I'm a type A personality and I LOVE to research things prior to buying them. For me it is a big part of the fun.

I have one buddy who just bought a 2001 Yamaha Raptor without doing any research! I spent maybe 5 minutes over at atvconnection.com and saw that 01 raptors have a HUGE problem with blowing up trannys. It is bad to the point where Yamaha may do a recall. I would have NEVER bought that ATV.

I have another buddy who I just went to the local Honda/Yamaha shop with and he bought a brand new Warrior. When he told me he was getting one I did some quick research for him. When I was going over the pros and cons I mentioned that it was a 4 stroke and he says "oh it's a 4 stroke"!!!!!!

How could anyone buy something and not even know if it was a 4 stroke of not?

I feel guilty if I don't do the research for them and help them out.

Man, I just don't get it.

What alarms me the most is they were buying quads! Seriously, yes it is strange to just buy a new machine without knowing anything about it.

Um; maybe they didn't realize they were quads?

I bought a then 10 year old IT-200 Yamaha from a dealer without knowing anything about it. I just wanted something to ride with my son, and that was the first used bike I saw.

I just thought, heck, it's made in Japan, what could go wrong?

Presonally I ride a 99 RM250

GEEZE! I spend a half hour agonizing about what to order for lunch. I'll take two weeks to look for a cheap radio for my garage. Imagine the angst I've caused my real estate agent!

But I guess *someone* has to fall for all that glitzy Madison Avenue marketing hype.

Um yeah, if it is 10 years old, you can definitely go wrong.
Obviously you've never ridden an IT200!  Surprising power and it felt as light as a bicycle when riding it through tight trees.

I had a friend who used to spank us (on 250s) on the MX track with his 10 year old IT200.

Yamaha had that class dominated for a long time with those ITs

I think I still got a line on a '78 IT175 . . .

It was a great bike to get back into dirt biking. Cheap, reliable, fun, reasonable performance. It's one major flaw, IMHO, was air cooling. In the heat of battle, it definately lost alot of power.

I kept it only a very short time, buying a CR250R.

Oh, I sold it for exactly what I paid for it, never spending a nickel on it for maintenance. Lube, gas, premix, little wrenching. I certainly did not get screwed buying it. ;)

So, how'd ya git that radiator busted? :scream:

A timely comment for me, as I replace my first radiator even on a dirt bike (and I'm still healing).

I agree, air cooled makes some sense in trail bikes, tanks, airplanes and lawn mowers.
