Hi guys, I'm new to this site, it looks awesome!! I hope one of you cats can help shed to light on my problem.
I picked up a nice 1980 Susie 250 RM to run post-vintage mx with. Bike was running fine except for a slight high rpm miss which slowly progressed to the mid-range. (span of maybe 2 hours running time) but the bike was still a first or second kick starter. What I have now is weak spark that progresses to no spark in maybe 5 or 6 kicks. I know I'm looking at 1 of 3 areas of trouble, coil, stator, or cdi box. Am I going to be lucky and just be able to throw on a new coil and get rid of the problem, or do I have to just start adding a new componant at a time till it get it back under way! Any of you had this problem, or know what exactly I'm seeing? Any help you can offer would be great! Thanks..

No experience with that year RM, but when my old '84 KDX stator went bad it acted similarly.  Started out as hard starting when hot, then weak running when hot, then weak starting cold - definetely heat sensitive at first.

You should be able to have the stator rewound fairly inexpensively (under $100), and it would probably be better than new.  check www.rickystator.com   , but a local repair shop could probably do it.  Also do a google search, I've seen pages on how to do it yourself.  Apparently it's pretty easy if you are patient.
