My brother just gave me an older kx125. He thinks it is either an 86 or an 88. There is no VIN number on the bike, it was that way when he bought it. I need a throttle cable and a brake lever, and i cant buy anything until i figure out what year it is. The only thing I could find on it is what i think is the engine number, and it says "KH1 KX125 DE000661" I found that on the bottom part of the engine. Any advice to help find out the year? Thanks

Well a dead give away if it's an '86 model should be the fact that is has a remote resivoir shock and not a "piggy back" or has in built into the shock shaft. This was an new feature on the 87. It's definetly older than a 88 if the motor does not have case reed induction. If the reed block still go's into threw cylinder it's no newer than an '87 case reed enters threw the cases sorta under the cylinder. If it doesn't have a rear disc brake then it's older than an '86!
