Hey guys I'm running a 12 tooth front sprocket, and a 48 tooth renthal in back... I ride pretty long trails and need more top speed. About how fast do you think this setup tops out at currently? I just want to be able to cruise in 5th at a decent rate without being in the powerband and sippin down fuel.

Try a 13 up front. If that's not enough, get a 14. If that's not enough, get a bike with a wide ratio tranny.

I used to ride a 95' RMX 250 and it was a beast. I had it bored .40 over, forgot which sprockets I had on it but the bike did over 110 mph!!! Anyone want to trade sprockets?

It had a wide ration transmission. The RM is a closed course machine, and the transmission is close ratio to keep it up in the RPM range. The RMX had the wider ratio transmission to get that higher top speed.

Yeah I loved that bike... Spent $1200 on a rebuild at the dealer, and it blew up 2 months later so I sold it for practically nothing. If anyone wants to trade sprockets send me a pm.

There is NO way you could get me to try and hit 110mph on a dirt bike. That's nutty. 70 is about as fast as I care to go. I prefer to try and go 35 or so in the woods. Rode an XL600 a while back that scooted up to about 90 or 95. That was INTENSE, you could see the front fender almost touching the tire and it felt like the bike was literally floating. Not something I care to experience again.

yeah i used to ride the old train tracks up north in connecticut, and it there were straight aways over 10 miles long! My front fender was actually permanently bent down from going so fast actually lol... I just need more top speed on this bike, and in 5th gear it seems i can only do about 45 mph before your in the powerband.
