Hiya slowpoke ;) Welcome aboard.
Slowpoke, check the frame on the YZ carefully, especially where it bolts at the bottom of the engine - by the footpegs (I know where I mean, just hard to explain). Mine was a 99 & 6mo when I got it. I was complaining it felt like it was going to break in two over whoops. It'd cracked at this point (both sides) - a cheap fix but expensive break if it'd gone (was probably 1 or 2 rides off going when I finally figured it out). I blame the kid I'd bought the bike off as I preferred two wheels on the ground.

LOL, no but it reminds me of an exchange student from Malaysia that lived in the dorm with me at U of I. She was maybe 4'9" and kept telling me that I had to come visit her in Malaysia because I wouldn't be able to walk through the door there without ducking my head!
5'10" isn't THAT tall but I guess over there it is.

Thanks for the advice Michelle! My husband keeps a close eye on all our bikes. Besides I hardly ever ride and when I do the tires never leave the ground.
Unfortunately I think I only rode 1 time this past year.:mad:
My New Years Resolution is to get more time on the bike. Least one of them is.

I myself am new
I myself am new to this site, My boyfriend suggested that I check it out.. he has been glued to it now for the last 3 days or so...... He is now completely obsessed with finding himself the perfect bike and I have since joined in..although I know nothing about them, I just go along with what he says, and when we finally get bikes, I pray I like it enough to ride all the time with him. He used to ride all the time when he was younge, but hasn't since he sold his bike before he went away to college, now a year after graduating, he wants to get back into it.. I on the other hand have vague memories of riding quads when I was little, and have slowly started to grow out of my tomboyishness, however I am very interested in getting into riding, it seems like great fun, I cant wait till we get bikes and get out there on the trails, since I seem to think that is all that is pretty much out here.
I am originally from New Jersy, and remember going down to the Pine barrens with dune, buggies, my mom 4-wheelin in her jeep, and a whole bunch of people havin fun, now if that was before the days of WWW and AOL im sure I should be able to find some fun soon. hey, maybe Ill even start to like Washington.

Washington is a great place! You're just on the wrong side of the state. ;)
Actually, from what I have heard there is a lot of nice riding pretty close for you guys over there - not like at my place where we just ride from the house but hey not everyone can be a mountain woman.
As far as a bike goes, it really depends upon your size, physical abilities, temperment and type of riding you want to do - MX, trails, casual......
So give us a bit more info like how tall you are and are you petite and dainty (like me ;)) or an amazon (like CJrider;)).

HA HA HA... Im barely 5'5, not really petit.. im pretty athletic.. I played Ice Hockey for a while, and still try to everynow and then..Im just not sure if Ill have all the coordination needed for it.. but ill give it a try.. I had quads when I was a kid, and loved that.. so I have a good idea this will work.. we checked out so many bikes at he bike show a while ago and it has become ritual on weekends to go to shops and compare... nex would be finding a place to put it when we buy....

At 5'5" you have plenty of choices and if you can skate on that slippery stuff, you have the coordination! I'm getting pretty good at skating in my hiking boots down my driveway haven't even fallen yet this year (2002). :scream:
I don't have much experience with the smaller bikes but if you check out the thread down the page a bit on the wife's bike question you will get some info on some of the bikes.
Lets see, XR200, TTR125L, GasGas Pampera are some of the more beginner friendly bikes that aren't too small. Then for more of a challenge there are always the 2stroke 125's or the KDX200 or 220's.
Are you planning on trail riding on fireroads or more of the technical woods trails of Washington or are you thinking of tearing up the MX tracks?

My boyfriend has been looking at the ttl125 for me.. and a couple others, but the GG seems out of the price range.. we have taken a lot of info from here and are out looking, next step before buying would deff be someplace to keep it.. we have an S-10 to cart them around, but unfortunately no garage to keep em at since we live in an apartment complex

Well, I might be able to borrow a bike for you to try out if you would like. I'm still gimpy from a knee surgery though so I can't really ride much right now. Maybe in a month or so I'll try it (carefully). You can try my bike if you like, or I can borrow something smaller. Let me know.

Cool, that would be awesome... I have never been on one before.. ( closest i came to 2wheels is on the back of my friends streetbikes back home) Im kinda nervouse about falling, or getting seriously hurt, but my boyfriend says if i can stand there and have people shoot hockey pucks at my head I should be able to handle this. I think im also worried about dumping the bike and costly repairs, but I am GUNG HO right now.
I was watching this movie on the Disney channel about a girl who rodeMX for her twin bro that got hurt in trials and all that she went through, it was pretty funny, but it kinda made me want to ride even more...
Lets see this weekend if when we go to visit all the bikes at the shops this weekend, If we get to adopt one..

Sounds like you'll do fine! The biggest thing is to relax and not worry about anything besides riding while you are learning. I was always too tense, wondering if I looked like an idiot, but made more mistakes because of that. I've got spare everything except boots if you need. My bike might be a bit tall, and not exactly a beginner bike--hell, I've been falling down for almost 2 years and I still don't use a fraction of the power it makes--but you're welcome to try. You can't do anything to it I haven't already.
