A 125 motocross bike makes a poor trail bike. They have very peaky power and not alot of low end which makes trail riding difficult. They also have close range transmissions geared for the track, not the trail.

Not entirely true..I have been riding a 125 in the woods for years..don't do anything different for the trails than I do for the track. I've never had an issue ever with it.

A 125 2 stroke MX bike is hardly the ideal/perfect trail bike - but that doesn't mean you can't ride trails on one and have a lot of fun. I've done it on 85s and 125s for years.

No low end? Yep. You just have to be careful with gear selection and clutch it a lot in the slow sections. If you're moving along pretty good, it's not a problem at all.

ok he never said yz but there is a 02 125 4stroke that could be geared down isnt there
A 125 4 stroke would be a ttr. It is a small trail bike. Sounds like you should be looking at bigger trail bikes like the xr200/250, kdx type bikes.

You may want to spend some time reading on this site about different types of bikes and their purpose. A 125 MX bike is nothing like a TTR125...completely different.

I never said that riding a MX 125 on the trail was impossible, I said that they make poor trail bikes, which is true. If you can ride a 125 MX bike on the trail, just imagine how good you would be on the trail if you had a KDX220. People also define "trails" as different types of terrain.

This guy is asking us which bike to buy and he doesnt know much about bikes. Why would we recommend a MX 125 for trail riding if he could just as easily buy a more trail friendly bike, such as an XR or TTR?
