Hello everyone...I've never been on a dirtbike before, never thought I could do it either, but just yesterday I was on a dual sport suzuki DR650. It was so much different than riding a sports bike, and so much fun. So now I'd like to get my own. something cheap, but reliable to start off with.

Howdy from the DFW Metromess and welcome to the site

Have you completely filled out your info in your CP? Be sure and do so. After that grab a spot on the couch.

Fill us in on the who, what, when, where, and how long, and we will try and hook you up with some fellow members.

Regarding your question about DS bikes, I have a XR650R and absolutely love the bike, but I don't think that is the direction I would go if I was going to get my first DS bike again. Suzuki makes a great 400 that comes street legal. It is electric start and you don't have to go through the hoops of getting is reregistered like the XR, which is really a dirt bike. Honda makes a XR650L, Kawasaki has some great iron as well. If you bleed orange as I do, the new KTM RFSs are being delivered street ready now. Husky is bringing in their bikes street legal as well.

The DS market is ballooning in popularity as people seem to have less time to load up and drive an hour to a ride park for a day in the dirt. Within 30 minutes of leaving my driveway I can be on the dirt roads of East Texas powersliding by the fence posts.

Check out the What Bike Do I Get... ? forum for tons of great info on bikes. Use search and you will get lost in there for days. :) Check the Help Us Help You ...Hints to help get advice on bikes thread for great information that will help everyone zero in on recommendations.

Again, welcome to DRN. We hope you enjoy your stay here and come back often!
