North TX Riding: To Lavon or Not To Lavon?

Hey everyone,

I am moving next week from a slum hole to the sweet outskirts of Plano. From my new home I am 15 min from the Lavon area. Not many of my friends like it since it's kinda small, but I sometimes can't stand driving a frickin' hour or 1.5 hours to get to the trails like Muenster or Rocky Ridge. So my question is, is it better to be able to go ride more at an ok place or better to wait and ride less often at a better place? Yeah, I know I can do both. But am I wasting my time going to Lavon? Last time I went, I bit it pretty hard in the first turn since the dirt is so packed.

If anybody here ever goes to Lavon, please let me know what you think of it.

I think it depends on personal preference. There is a field right next to my house that a few neighborhood kids ride on. Sure I could ride there everyday if I wanted, but a field only provides me with about 3 1/2 minutes of fun, then I get bored. The kids out there love it, and can stay out there for hours riding their bikes. Point is, whatever riding place you find fun, then by all means ride there regardless of what other people think of the place.

Personally If I have to drive 2 hours, waste 15 bucks in gas, pay 10 dollars in gate fees, 10 bucks to eat somewhere because you forgot snacks, just to ride for 30 minutes in the most perfect conditions, it would be worth it to me... my friends however think otherwise and that doesn't mean I'm going to stop doing it.

I'm thankful that I live 15 minutes from Mosier Valley.

You so suck cp! :confused:

I would love to go out there, but I am just a beginner and I really don't think I am ready to head to the track. The guys from the shop (Carrollton Kawasaki) where I bought my bike have invited me to go out with them several times. Besides, I don't want to be somebody's guinne pig for pass blocks when they t-bone me off the track.

went to lavon last friday - i haven't ridden in about 10 years and i stepped up to a 250 from a 125. just me and my brother were there and it was perfect for me to get my feet wet again. if there were a couple of other bikes or quads out there i would not have been as happy. kind of small and there are huge ruts immediately after you come up the tops of the good hills. better than not riding though.

Mosier runs practice three times a week that include sessions for beginners and novices. Riding on a prepped track is way more fun than puttin around on the trail. It's worth the drive.

Lavon is ok if you just want to go ride for an hour or two. Some weekends it gets crazy with people. If it rains forget it. The whole place is a big low spot with no where for the water to go. There are some trails in the woods SW of the riding area that are ok. But I have heard of people getting tickets for ridding in some areas that you are not supposed to be in.

Stoked_kx,
I just started riding this year and i go ride at Mosier every chance I get. You don't have to go fast or do all the jumps. I don't do any of them. I race cross country so practicing the turns is is what I go for. You won't get T-boned or run in to if you hold your line and try to stay out of the way in the jump sections.

Yea, just ride predictably and stay on one side or the other on the big jumps that you can't clear.
