I had a deer hunter block the trail (long lake in Cadillac) a few years back, the weekend BEFORE the Nov.15 hunting season. the crazy guy saw me coming where the trail crossed the 2 track - so he backed up blocking the trail (like I couldn't have just gone around him anyway), jumped out of his truck and grabbed a 2x4 out of the back. He stood in the trail like he was going to swing the 2x4 at me. I stopped close enough to ask him what his problem was (but still far enough away that he couldn't get a swing with the board). He said that I was riding illegally and didn't belong out there during deer season. I reminded him that it was NOT deer season yet and I had every right to be on on this trail. As he ranted and raved on and on about how I shouldn't be there, the other 4 guys that I was riding with, started showing up. he became a lot less brave when there were 5 of us and one of him. I also took my helmet off (as did the others) he had a shocked look on his face as he was probably expecting a bunch of "kids" and all of us were probably 15-20 years older than he was. He started backtracking pretty good but still insisted that we were riding illegally. I explained that I volunteer patrol (ORV trails) for the U.S. Forest Service and was well aware of the laws and re-assured him that we were very legal. He then commented that it wasn't right that we could use the trails (woods) all year long and he (as a deer hunter) only got 15 days in the woods. I said " you can use the woods all year as easily as us". He asks "hows that"? I said why don't you get a bike and join us - you'd love it! He got back in the truck and left - I'm sure that he still thinks we should have backed off and agreed to "give" him the woods to play in that weekend. (laugh)
