I've just found out about Glucosamine and it's restorative effects on the joints and thought someone here that isn't too "manly" to pop natural pills might be interested. After a year I still have a tender neck/head joint from whiplash and so am game to try anything natural. In one clinical study 4 of 15 persons with arthritis were symptom free in 3 weeks after taking 1500mg of Glucosamine daily. To read a good report about it go to http://www.jr2.ox.ac.uk/bandolier/band46/b46-2.html

Glucosamene is an excellent supplement. Being in my 40's and lifting "heavy", the only way my joints could take the beqating was using this supplement.

I highly recommend it to anyone with joint, ligament or tendon problems.

Yeah, it works... really hard on my stomache though, goes through me half the time. Only been taking for three weeks, hope the old bod adjusts.

But it does work, didn't use to be able to take my spark plug cap off due to Arthritis in index fingers, now I have no pain at all.

I used JSF (joint support formula) made by Champion Nutrition. Call Will at National Discount Nutrition (Wilson, NC) or check out his web site and tell him Bill sent you.

I am also of the "it works" opinion. I have a really bad right knee that as of lately has been giving me a lot of grief. It got so sore last spring I thought I was going to have to blow some time off work so I figured I had nothing to lose by trying some. I used the stuff that comes with chondroitin (250mg Gluc/200mg Chond per pill) at 3 or 4 a day and my pain has been greatly reduced and some days none at all. It was in the second or third week after I started that I noticed it was beginning to work. Less and less pain each day and I was able to walk a lot more fluidly. This stuff is great. I hope it works for you as well as it did for me.

Would glucosamine help heal ligaments/tendons or help prevent them from tearing during a crash? I've snapped an ACL knee ligament, and 2 shoulder ligaments in my riding , healing now from rotator cuff reattachment surgery -

Got to doing a little research and this stuff does look very promising. Did come across this little bit of info though.

"No study so far has found any serious side effects from either glucosamine or chondroitin. The most common side effects are increased intestinal gas and softened stools. However, animal research has raised the possibility that glucosamine may worsen insulin resistance, a major cause of diabetes. So far, studies in humans have not substantiated that risk. Nevertheless, people with diabetes should monitor their blood-sugar level particularly carefully when using that supplement. There have been no reports of allergic reactions to glucosamine. But since it's made from shellfish shells, people who are allergic to seafood should use it cautiously, watching for reactions, or avoid it entirely. As for chondroitin, it can cause bleeding in people who have a bleeding disorder or take a blood-thinning drug."

I wouldn't classify this as negative as much as I would cautionary. To read the whole article, go to......

MX, are you taking that all at once or at different times throughout the day? How many pills is that a day?

That's a great question. I wonder if someone here knows.

the ones that i'm taking are spring valley from wal-mart. each pill is 500 mg glucosamine and 400 mg chondroitin. i take them at different times each day, three pills total. there is another thread (i think it's wfo's link) here somewhere with a link to more info which is pretty interesting. if i remember correctly, it says to take the maximum dose (which is what i'm doing) and that the glucosamine sulfate is just as effective.

I take the glucosamine with sulfate. Dropped to 500 mg per day, due to the runs I take only before bed... this seems to be often enough to eliminate my joint problems.

I've been taking the stuff for 4 months as swear by it. At the tender age of 55 I thought I might have to give up riding. Most of the info. I have read on this says to take it in conjunction with Condroitin.
