There are 128 ounces in a gallon. That means that for one gallon of gas, you would add 128 ounces / 40 = 3.2 ounces of oil.

Now you see why lazy people like me mix at 32:1. We add 4 ounces of oil per gallon of gas, which is easy to measure.

Buy a small measuring cup (or even a Ratio Rite, which is a $5 luxury item) and keep it with your gas can.

Or you do like I do and dump a 16 oz bottle into 4 gallons of gas.
