oil missing from forks?

how can you tell if you have oil in the forks or not?
I had a fork job done a while back, but i don't know if they ever put the oil back in or not, it was a mail order deal, and this was like 3 years ago. its a 89 yz125.

I would imagine that with no oil at all the forks would be extremely springy.. No dampening effect at all.. Is that the case with yours?

I suppose you could take the cap off and dip a rod of some sort down in, see if there is anything in there...
