Oil residue in exhaust pipe and muffler

When refilling my silencer I noticed a thin layer of what looks like oil build-up on the inside of the pipe. Is this typical of a 2-stroke exhaust or is this a sign that my bike is running rich? I have a 96 KX 250.

I tried to post a picture but couldn’t get it to work. Since I am just registered and not a member can I even post pictures?

It's a result of jetting that is too rich in one or more of the carb circuits.

Ok well I will try and dial in the jetting but in the mean time should I worry about cleaning it up or is it ok to leave it as is?

It will eventually soak the silencer packing and destroy it.

To remove the splooge from your silencer/engine/frame degreaser will be fine yes.  But I wouldn't reccomend spraying degreaser down your muffler to "clean" your packing!

No, but repacking the silencer and correcting the jetting will. :thumb:
