Hello everyone. This is my first post. Since I joined the DRN I purchased a newer bike. My first bike ever at age 12 was a 1967 Yamaha 100cc YL2C. I completly took the bike apart, rewired it, painted it and got it running (with the idocy help from my local auto parts house, took in a condenser and told them my dad needed a new one of these, he said its from a mitsubishi, and i bought it) with no help from my father or anyone else... I rode it till I was 15 when I put a fuel additive in it and poured the wrong mix fuel in it and burned a hole in the piston. :ahhh: After 15 years I found some hard parts, and got it running again to put the wrong plug in it and burn another hole in the piston :bang: so there it sits.. now im 30, I bought a 1980 rm400 totally rebuilt it top to bottom got it running poorly but running (need a new ring for it, but just too lazy to buy it now) and then decided I am really into it again and bought a 97 rm250 man what a difference between when I was 12 and now. So now that you know my history of the sport, does anyone else have any of these old bikes? :ride: :blah:

My '80 KDX175 is still pretty respectable, unless it's just how i ride it.

The 250 will keep a top end longer than the small bores. Knock y'rself out!

New guy here

Yeah, I have a 74 Suzy TS400 that I raced in an AHRMA event yesterday.
It was my first race in about 30 years - :ride:

I also have several other mid 70's Suzukis.

Building a 74 TM125

Rebuilding a 79 Husky 390CR

other bikes too, but nothing newer than 81.

Husky rebuild

The Husky is in the (very) early stages of reassembly. I hope to have it done by the end of summer. There were a lot of areas that needed attention.

The TM125 is still in the parts acquisition stage. I still need bars, a decent seat, and a decent set of forks. Anybody have these out here?

I'm having a blast on the TS400

I've got a few. I just let my 79 RM400N go. Great bike that I rebuilt from the ground up. It rode really nice and looked like a brand new bike. Do I miss her? You bet!

81 RM250 about 70% complete. Started six weeks ago, second ressurection, have financial management approval :).

Waiting on the wishbone bushing that has been on backorder for TWO F'N MONTHS!!! :bang

This is where your network of skilled friends comes into play, and in the "old girl" game you can't have enough skilled friends or the "yeah, I can get you a piece of that, no problem!" type of person, also known as "company sponsorship" :) just be sure to mention the appropiate providing companies if someone ever sticks a microphone in your face after you just won a big one!

Back to the bushing, a new rider buddy has taken my old bushing (it's more like a 5" long pipe with metric dimensions) and has acsess and ability to make it out of 304 Stainless which I hope will get along with the new races and needles it will be sharing the wishbone with.

Ten bucks says that the minute Ben puts that new bushing in my hand the phone will ring and say "this is MidWest Action PowerSports.... Your'.... Bushing!... is ready to be picked up!

I will return the favor to Ben in whatever comes up that he needs, and if if it takes years, so be it, because that's how it works ...

Good Luck and stay tuned!

Britt! you let a 400 go!?! Bad dog!

I traded it for the 71 BSA B50MX. When I got it, it was worth the same as the Zuk. Now, it's worth waaay more with minimal investment. The old school 4 stroke Beeza is a fun bike to ride, just don't go jumping it, 4" travel in the back runs out quick. Also, when you go to an ARHMA event, you get treated a little better than if you ride an EVO style bike. Strange but true. I may get another one some day as they are great bikes. Try this link and go to the B50MX link to the left. There, you will see my BSA.

Good looking Ride!!

I don't think you got hurt on the trade but it always leaves a hollow spot when one of the builds leaves the shop and the other guy never knows all the "Problems" that we solve, one way or another.

Incedently, I came from your area, most of my kin are up N. of the big river around the Longveiw/Kelso/ Olympia way.

4" of travel? How much more do you need?

Thats the area where my BSA came from and my RM went to. They opened Straddleline ORV again so we went up there for Dino Days last Saturday. It was wet and muddy but we had a great time. I also picked up a 78 YZ400 sans engine for $30. The deals were everywhere at the swap meet. A running 73 Honda CR250 Elsinore with Fox Airshox went for, get this, $400! I could have bought it but I didn't know about the swapmeet so I didn't bring very much cash with me. :bang: Most of the deals there were like that. Insane!

I bought a pile of parts (got hosed) on e-bay about 3-1/2 years ago that was supposed to be a Bultaco Alpina. After scrounging around I finally got enough parts to make it a runner.

If I feel like hitting e-bay some more I may try and restore it to 100% stock. Right now it runs good, has zero brakes and crappy suspension. About like new.

Woods, wouldn't that make the pile of parts a 'factory correct' Bultaco? Goes like hell but won't stop or turn :)

Good luck on it, and if ya get a chance, let the local track 125 hotshoe take a spin on it, the look on their face when they come back in is PRICELESS!! "AKA "how the F##k do you stay on this thing??"

Britt, always take a ton of cash to swap meets where the "Sons of Norway" have a booth (proud member, all my life :)

At least you got the shot at swap meet, mostly here it's an online affair.

A '73' Elsie?? Sell one of the kids, they'll come back!
