Depends on your machine's condition.
If it's clapped out (ie: leaking more oil from the shock and forks than a Harleys engine) then, yea, you might end up getting hurt. :eek:

But if it's well cared for, maintained, and in good running condition, i'd say he's just trying to sell you a bike.
Of course that depends on how you intend on riding it.
If your gonna try jumping canyons or something, then you might consider new.
If your playriding or amatuer racing then the '90 should do you fine.
Most importantly, if you like the bike and it's doing all you ask of it, then why buy a new one? Unless those dollars are burning holes in your pocket! :)

Unless your bike is completely clapped out with broken springs/no oil, go ahead and jump. I consider a 1990 bike pretty new. If an 85 XR100R can handle jumps, I think your bike can too.

I ride an 89 rmx250. It weighs ~250lbs.. thats pretty darn heavy and your yz125 would weigh what 200? It sounds like you havent done any serious jumping?? Well Ill tell you this, Ive gotten plenty of air on my bike and its done just fine. My best jump was prolly rear tire 10 ft in the air and a distance of ~75 ft on cold hardpacked dirt. That was a flatland keep in mind. If my bike can handle that, your 125 shouldnt have any problem! That seems like nothing to a lot of you, but i think its pretty good for a 13 y/o bike. Id go bigger but i dont have many doubles or anything with a landing..

Im still alive and kickin and ive had more air than some of the guys i know on brand spankin new bikes!:) But for some reason my riding buddies keep calling me crazy...;)

sounds like your dealer is a jerk, or does not have any bike knowledge at all.
there is nothing wrong with a 1990 bike bike tech hasn't really changed that much since 1988.;)

Old bike?? I ride an '84 CR250 and I am pretty comfortable on it. On Sunday I was riding it and did my first double, about 50'. I didn't worry about the bike at all... I was more concerned with my abilities than with the bike! The guy who was "coaching" me has a lot of riding experience (and brand new bikes) and I trusted him when he said I was ready for it. Well, I guess I was, and it was really fun!
