Depends on your machine's condition.
If it's clapped out (ie: leaking more oil from the shock and forks than a Harleys engine) then, yea, you might end up getting hurt. :eek:
But if it's well cared for, maintained, and in good running condition, i'd say he's just trying to sell you a bike.
Of course that depends on how you intend on riding it.
If your gonna try jumping canyons or something, then you might consider new.
If your playriding or amatuer racing then the '90 should do you fine.
Most importantly, if you like the bike and it's doing all you ask of it, then why buy a new one? Unless those dollars are burning holes in your pocket! :)
