There have been a few posts here about efforts locally to allow ORV's to use road shoulders in Oscoda county. There is a meeting coming up on 8/14 (I hope to be there). This topic seems to have now gotten the attention of the Oscoda County Chamber of Commerce. We have an opportunity here guys!
The Chamber is sending out a survey to local businesses asking their opinions on this topic, economic impact type stuff, finally boiling down to, should the Chamber come out in support of ORV road use or not. I think we need to weigh in as well.
I am going to be sending an email to the Chamber stressing the following points:
- Economic Impact (when i vacation somewhere ORV oriented, how much do I end up spending in that area? I will cite my recent trip to West Virginia, where I pumped in nearly $2,000 to the local economy, I also got two others to come on the trip (Creeper9 and 2big) and we plan to return to the area)
- Impact that ORV access issues have on how I select where I go for ORV vacations (I pick easy access right from where I am staying, avoid places where I have to trailer from where I am staying)
- I will attempt to address the negative sterotypes applied to us off roaders.
- I will reference opportunity for expanding lodging and dining business
- I will reference topics such as CCC event location selection
- I will stress we support responsbile trail use.
You get the idea.
So, how about a email campaign to the Oscoda County Chamber of Commerce? The only email address I can find is:
[email protected]
Lets give them a real feel for how us ORV users view this!
