Traffic is more of a problem than finding a place to stand. Broome is a good spectator track and if you get a seat in the bleachers along the top of the track you can see 75% with out walking around. I stil like to walk around but the bleachers are a good place to sit.
If you roll in by 8:30 you shouldn't have any problem.
If you're going to Broome-Tioga and want to skip the traffic coming from 81, there is a back way. Take 17 West to Exit 67N. Then come up 26 North but before you get to Rt. 79, you take some backroads that'll put you on 79 to the West of the track. There's virtually no traffic coming from that direction on 79. You'll have to look at some maps to find the right roads off 26, just remember you want to end up on 79 in Tioga County, no Broome County and double back east to the track.
When you leave, go out the same way and you won't be stuck in the traffic getting back to 81. You can take 26 to 17 to 81 which is a little longer in distance but you'll at least be moving freely. Or you could just take the back roads to 26 North to 81 (effectively making a loop around the traffic).
I've taken all routes possible and what I've found that works the best is to get there by 8:30 and stay until 6 or 7. You get there before the traffic and leave after the traffic. I'd rather hang out at the press conference, pits, etc instead of hanging out in my truck in traffic.
