While we modify things designed and built by people over seas, as if thats the definition of high technology....there are those in different places on this planet are truely pushing the bounderies.

Amazing footage and an indication that this is a rapidly moving technology...

Those moves would be great in a dogfight, too bad there hasn't been one of those in 40 years. Missiles are great.

The "techology guru's" said that when they designed the first gen Phantom too...and obviously that was the rational for spending all that time developing vectored thrust on both the f-22 and f35...along with the retractable guns.

Rationalization is a wonderful thing.

Do a little research in the SU & MIG's marketplace..the REST of the world..and unfortunately little skirmishes are more common place than we all wish they were. 40 years? Dog fighting unfortunately has happened within the last few years...and will happen again.

Reguardless, these Su-27 thru 37 series planes are awesome, here also with an absolutely amazing pilot. What was he thinking when he did this type of stuff the FIRST time. (Actually there is a documentary on the Pilot who pushed the first Mig-29's into this type of stuff..)

Cool. Just think what Goose and Maverick could do in one of those.

That's really cool from an air show perspective but how does the MIG look on radar? Will the MIG pilot ever see the F22 that kills him?

Just wondering.

Thats the Billion Dollar tax payer funded question isn't it? Doubt the F-22 is going to show off in public the way these Su's do. But I bet it has similar capabilities. The F-35 certainly does. :blah:

The chances of a "one on one" are small...but thats another story. How about a ten to one JF-17 advantage?

Whats more interesting to me is how easily it is for some to believe in the complex technology they don't truely understand...comforting to put such faith in a theoretical performance envelope, with so many possibilities for "special conditions" to foil the Software behind the avionics controlling this stuff!! :coocoo: :coocoo: Spending as much time as I did dealing with extreemly complex S/W..I like the tangible vs. theoretical!

Does anyone truely want to find out? I certainly hope we never do.

Bottom line to this thread is thats some really cool stuff!! Wish I was able to play like that!

Honsetly, the general public may never know the true capabilities of our fighting aircraft, or any of our fighting machines. Most of that information is kept classified (top secret I believe) so that the potential enemies don't find out what they are up against until it's too late.

That's pretty cool Walt! I remember reading about this technology not that long ago...now it's here!

We have to hook up and do some riding this year. It's been too long.

I used to be cleared for and work on many of these defense programs when I lived in Southern California, including the B2 and both ATFs (remember, there was a flyoff and the YF22 beat the YF23?). We all knew the MIG-29 was awesome and much more modern than the F15, so it was time for another leap (believe it or not, the F15 Eagle first flew in 1972). In fact, I grew up in St. Louis, MO and co-op'd through engineering school there. I remember the first time I saw this weird looking plane with twin orange rudders being chased by an F4 Phantom with a similarly painted orange rudder in a mock dogfight, right over Lambert field next to McDonnell Douglas! That was amazing. I also remember the periodic sonic booms we'd get, and being scared half to death as a kid the first time I heard one.

Anyway, no foam pit for these guys...altitude is their friend when learning these maneuvers. And if you haven't seen a MIG-29 at an airshow I strongly recommend it.

We still don't know what our subs are capable of. I hear they're the fastest ships in the fleet, faster than the carriers because they don't have to deal with the water/air interface.
