I used to be cleared for and work on many of these defense programs when I lived in Southern California, including the B2 and both ATFs (remember, there was a flyoff and the YF22 beat the YF23?).  We all knew the MIG-29 was awesome and much more modern than the F15, so it was time for another leap (believe it or not, the F15 Eagle first flew in 1972).  In fact, I grew up in St. Louis, MO and co-op'd through engineering school there.  I remember the first time I saw this weird looking plane with twin orange rudders being chased by an F4 Phantom with a similarly painted orange rudder in a mock dogfight, right over Lambert field next to McDonnell Douglas!  That was amazing.  I also remember the periodic sonic booms we'd get, and being scared half to death as a kid the first time I heard one.

Anyway, no foam pit for these guys...altitude is their friend when learning these maneuvers.  And if you haven't seen a MIG-29 at an airshow I strongly recommend it.
