Trying to get a little info on the differences between 2001 & 2002 300exc....I've heard the 02' has a little more hit in the motor dept.????? I ride a 93' 300mxc now.....mostly woods. Just trying to do as much research as possible before I drop a bunch of cash!!!!!:o

I have a 2001 300 EXC as well. It has plenty of hit for me. I just recently bought it from a dealer that had already gotten his 2002s in and was trying to get rid of the 2001s. The bike pulls well in the low end(like a 4-stroke) but once you get on it in the mid to top end it rips like a two-stroke. I highly recomment it. If you can get a good deal on a 2001, I would do that, rather than pay top dollar for a 2002. I have NOT ridden a 2002 so I have nothing to compare it to but in my opinion it has plenty of hit and can handle all types of riding.

I bought a new 2001 ktm 300exc in september. The dealer had 4 or 5 in stock.I got it for about $ 5,200 +tax & lic.I'm still playing with the jetting,so far the best I have come up with is 42 pilot,185 main,1367n #3 needle,as about 1 turn out.91 octane gas,40 to 1 bell ray synthetic. This seemed to work well this weekend up at Georgetown,Ca.Elevation was about 2500' to 4700'.temp was about 40 to 60 degrees.I had the clip in the #2 position but it seemed a little lean so I put it in #3 and it really made a big difference.I haven't ridden an 02 but I'm happy with what I have.

EXC Jetting

Buddy,

I have re-jetted the bike..Unfortunately I am a novice when it comes to jetting so I had the dealer do it for me at the time of purchase. I ride anywhere from 4500 feet up to 11000 and have not had any problems so far, it usually runs like a champ but a little sluggish in the very high altitudes. Sorry I don't know any of the specs on my current jetting..

One of my riding buddies has a 200 and its a lot busier in the handling dept and power delivery than my 250 or a 300. To be sure it is more stable than a KDX which I just came off of but I prefer the torque of the larger engine and the power delivery is smoother. If I was going to race HS in a displacement class the 200 would be a great choice but for play riding or racing in a age class the 250 or 300 gets the nod. 250 for woods and the 300 for open stuff. Either one will be a big change from the 93.

It has been said before but it is worth repeating that jetting for riding conditions is the single best improvment you can make. Strick, James Dean and many others have posted a lot of info here on that subject

I just bought my second 01300 exc. I bought the first last January, sold it last week. Went to the dealer and bought the last leftover fairly reasonable, saved hundreds over cost of 02. I am a 225 lb a rider in HS.
jetting has been tricky for 900 ft elevation. 45 pilot, 170 main, nozh needle in 2 clip position with stock slide...used a 7 slide last year maybe when it warms up I will go to a 7 on this bike. I say the 01 bikes are fine. Minimal changes between years and you can always buy black plastic if you want pretend it is an 02!
