I have a 1999 Yz250 that wont start. I havent ridden the bike in about a year, but before then I didnt have any problems with the bike. Its getting gas, new gas and spark plug but when I kick start it, it doesnt sound like it fires at all. Checked the spark by putting a screw driver in the spark plug boot and then touching it to the spark plug, would like to know any other better ways to check for spark? Didnt see any spark. Where and what do I do from here?

keep the spark plug in the wire, ground it on the motor or other metal part, then kick it over, if it dont spark, it wont start... also might wanna try cleanin out the carb. gas likes to gum that sucker up...

Put your finger in the plug boot and try to start the bike. If it shocks you it has spark.

Just kidding...

Do what outlaw said. Putting the plug in the boot and laying it against the head will be good enough to ground it. I'm betting on a clogged pilot jet.

Are you getting good compression? Stick your finger in the spark plug cap, no I am kidding. You will need a compression gauge if the basic things check out.

do what the other said for spark. did you leave gas in the tank for this whole time? if you did drain the tank did you drain the carb to? if not, you could be all gummed up in the carb. clean it really well. make sure you clean the whole thing.

especially the pilot jet, like the other guy said, its a hole the size of a needle, and any speck of dirt could clog it up

Yea If You Leave The Bike Sitting For A While Exspecially On A 2 Stroke The Gas Will Gum Up The Carb. So Your Best Bet Will Be To Take The Carb Off And Clean The Hell Out Of It.
