What started this is that I have been getting a lot of spooge out of the silencer. It is getting on my fender, plate, tire, etc. I figured it was probably running very rich so I did the plug chop. It doesn't look like it is running rich at all IMO. The insulator appears to be a rather uniform very light tan even though it doesn't show up in the photos. However, the coloration around the edge of the center electrode looks odd to me as well does the soot to the outside of the ground electrode.

Cutting the plug open? I have never heard of doing that for a plug reading. Last time I did this I just looked at the bottom of the porcelain and adjusted from there. Maybe I have been out of the loop for too long.
