I used to be able to run 2 hard laps, then hit the probverbial brick wall, but now I dont get arm pump and generally speaking dont get tired during enduros. I can still throw down some bubba scrubs though. :boss:

Grant, I agree with Mark on the 200. I have ridden a 200 a few times at PTR and as you know if you are on the pipe the 2 honey screams - you will be fine

Mark, This year I rode 10 D-14 HS's and 3 D-14 MX's and will be riding Bulldog MX on the 18th. I was riding D-14 events in 1976 when you were riding Big Wheels, well probably not quite but you get the point. I am not the DEVIL :p

Yes Shaggy I am pretty darn old (45) But, the dirt is still good and I love to ride.

I really wish this deal did not conflict with PTR but, I was not planning to ride PTR anyway but, I am sure it will pull a few folks that would have indeed rode PTR.

Note I will only be buying the 5.00 weekend pass for the other guys as I have no interest riding any of there events other than this one.

Good luck to all of you riding this weekend and I'll try not to let Mr. 6th gear WFO blow by me. I do sort of expect to get whipped, but you never know if you don't go.

what time is the 50 exhibition class race at? Do I have enough time to get myself ready between the boy racing that and me racing in the afternoon?

Is the 50 course pretty easy for a 6 year old to follow? He has no problem on a kids MX track (Big Air, Red Bud, Etc) or on trails but I am worried he might get confused if it is not taped good.

Does he need a D14 license?

Chris,

The 50's normally run at or near the same time as the quads....so EARLY. I have seen people show up too late. Get there around 7:30 to be safe...you may have to wait a little while, but you won't miss it then for sure! You will then have at least 1.5-2.5 hours until you race. It might take Tommy D. longer than that to figure out where he put his lucky BVD's from the 1981 JP that he has deemed his "lucky britches", that he MUST wear on race day....but you will have more than enough time to get ready.

The 50 course at Portland is very easy. Sand and a couple of small off-cambers for the little guys...but that's it. The dads are out there (moms too!) helping out. They let them go for about 1/2 hr. Portland does a great job with marking this course. It will be very easy for you boy, from the sounds of it.

No, I do not believe that you have to have a D14 membership.....but AMA is a yes. Since it's an exhibition class (non D14 points paying), you do not need a D14 membership to participate.

Mixed bag for me yesterday.

5:50 a.m.: Wake up
6:50 a.m.: In treestand
8:30 a.m.: Got down, saw 2, no shots taken
9:50 a.m.: Arrive at Portland
10:00 a.m.: Said Hi to Short-Nuts...he didn't look as cold as I felt. Must be the cake.
1:00ish p.m.: Go into first corner with M class, remembering why I don't like to run M class.
2:00 ish p.m.: Crash my brains out entering cornfield. Saw my rear tire coming around me prior to face-planting :yikes: . Course worker encouraged me to "STAY ON THE GROUND...DON'T MOVE DUDE".
2:02 ish p.m.: Got going again. Not sure why.
2:20 ish p.m.: Crashed hard AGAIN, while getting lapped by BJ.....who had the ride of his life yesterday  . Considered quitting again.....
2:23 ish p.m.: Crashed hard for the 3rd time trying to get around a lapper that I had previously passed prior to crashing the second time. Considered quitting again....
3:40 ish p.m.: Race over. Thanked the Lord for the merciful ending of the days crash-fest. Worst race for me in 4 years or more. :|
4:30 ish p.m.: Enjoyed my 3rd beer, courtesy of Dave Leathers...thanks Dave. I needed that. Told Dave I was going to hurry home to climb back in the tree and pout about the days events.
5:45 p.m.: Got home. Took the proverbial "smell like nothing" shower.
6:10 p.m.: Settled into treestand.
6:50 p.m.: Saw first deer.
7:20 p.m.: 4 more came past. Put the pin on the lead "alpha" doe and let 'er rip.
8:00 p.m.: Started tracking blood trail.
8:20 p.m.: Located deer! ;) Only went about 60 yds.
8:25 p.m.: Realized gutting deer with bruises all over the place, road rash and blisters, combined with being sore as you-know-what, isn't much fun.
8:45 p.m.: Hung deer in barn.

What a day!

Mark,

Thanks for the full report - good read for sure

You still did quite well - I looked at the scores

Really good Team class turnout - as usual at PTR

Tender loins for dinner!

I personally would rather gut a doe than a buck and same goes for the table. Nice job on the good kill shot

Good hunting, see ya at CMB

I'm out for CMB. I wish I could go....assuming I'd get points, I'd be the only guy to get overall points at every HS this year.....but, my wife is leaving for France that day for work.

She'll be gone for the week. I should invite Scotty B to heal up from surgery at my place. :whoa: My wife would wonder why all the rooms had glitter all over the place though

See ya at the Banquet then,Sir.

Ha! Sorry Tom, but I'm out for the banquet this year. First time in 12 years. After all the drama last year I'm going to try and do my best to sit back and watch the fireworks. I answered too many emails and phone calls last year....I'll let someone else have the fun this year and just say "I wasn't there, take it up with....". At least I'll try to do that.

Instead, I'll be "racing" my mtn bike with 3,900 other wing-nuts from Kalkaska to T.C.! Becker and DW are going. Should be fun. I'm bringing the whole family and staying at the Great Wolf Lodge. Fun for the kids and grandma.....and a night out in T.C. for me and the wife!

Soooooo.....I'll see you at the December meeting! Have fun at CMB and the remainder of your enduro's bud!

By the way...I forgot to ask you something yesterday....Did you lose a bet? I noticed you were looking pretty light in the hair department yesterday.

C'mon Freddy T......no comments from the peanut gallery? Looks like you were pretty close to the guys 2 positions ahead of you?

Grant rode real well, of course.

Not the best layout Portland has ever had, for what it's worth.

I was shooting my self in the foot all day missing the Euro cross section and taking the by pass, I just never saw the turn cause i was skeert landing the downside of that table just before the turn to the euro cross section. :whoa: :coocoo: thats worth about 20 seconds a lap. stupid mistake. I do remember making the final tight right hander off the track on the very back side and telling my self "F-ing corn field coming up again!" lap after lap after lap. :bang:

Thanks Mark!!! It was a good day, other than some people dont know how to loose gracefully, and tried getting me DQ'd casue I broke through a banner. The best part was that I stopped and let him catch back up. Oh well, I guess if you cant win on the track, try to get the person who whooped you disqualified. :nener: I just expected more from people, its amazing how quick someone can go from saying hi everytime you walk by, to making a scene for 4 points.

Dude, I thought you saw me when I came out of the stupid Euro section around 1 hour? I came from your right as you were coming over that stupid little pile of clay and waved at you?

The cornfield was grim. I cartwheeled entering that section off the MX course....I'm still hurting. Glad I'm not going to CMB now. Too old and don't heal up as quick, I guess.

I did hear about that, Grant.

I over-jumped the little table top on the infield that we had to make an immediate rt after...just after the stadium whoop section? Anyways, I blew through it and just turned right around and got back on the track right where I got off. No harm, no foul.

But, if you get off the track and then don't make every attempt to re-enter in the same spot....it's questionable. Did you let him take the lead? Glad to hear that Kidner and the referee made it right?

For what it's worth.....that layout was not the best routing that they've had. Although it is what it is......I thought this past spring, and last fall for that matter, had a better layout. Trying to "escargo" us through a cornfield was kinda grim :yikes:

Same exact spot!! blew over the skip jump and went through the banner. I skipped the subsequent left and got back on the right, but slowed down and let him get closer than he was before the incident. He passed me through the Euro section right after I let him catch up and had about a 20 second lead, so the track offical said being he had his chance to win they wernt gonna dock me.

My whole thing was that although this is not MX, the mx rules or unnoffical rules are that if you go off, get back on when safe, and do not gain an advantage. So i made sure that if anyone gained an advantage, HE did!!! And he still had a problem, that what shocked me.

Yeah, I hear you. Just remember that our rules are different, because of the woods coming into play. We have to make every attempt to safely turn around off the track and get back on as close to the point you got off. Who knows, if you did that and he passed you he may not have bitched at all?? Tough call, of course. Glad it worked out dude.

Just properly prepare your 200 for this Sunday-take time to look it over really good this time, eat healthy, get lots of rest and then on Sunday just whup his azz on the track so he knows with out a doubt that you are faster than him. Then at the banquet buy him a drink, tell him you are moving on to the 3 hr class so the Z class in the 2010 season is all his to prove you are the better man.

Thanks DW. Trying to do my part with the deer population around the house. The buck-doe ratio is way out of whack. The neighbors would rather shoot a 4 pt than take a mature doe....so our numbers are screwy. :bang:

Belly loins were tasty last night......more on the grill tonight!
