My forks work somewhat good for the trail riding I do, but I am concerned because the forks just compress a good two to three inches from top and don't come back up. After the two to three inch compress the forks work great but they are a little stiff for myself (5'9" 135lbs with gear) I have tried almost everything but sending them into a shop that does forks because of the cost. Can somebody please help with my problem??
It sounds like your forks are binding. Put the bike on a stand and loosen the axle and the axle pinch bolts, loosen the triple clamp bolts upper and lower. Now using a torque wrench tighten the upper and lower triple clamp bolts to spec. no more. After the triple clamps are properly tightened take the bike off the stand and hold the front brake on and pump the forks vigorously a few times. This will line up the forks on the axle. Put the bike back on the stand. Tighten axle and axle pinch bolts. Enjoy the other 60% of your suspension travel now.
