Can I do anything to increase the performance of this bike? Everyone takes out the spark arrestor and that's about it from what I have seen. Some guys change the sprocket on the rear. Does any one do anything else?

They're more limited by suspension than power, IMO. As far as power goes, I dropped a tooth on the front sprocket and that helped alot. If you really want performance, get a KX60.

I no it is the next step but I want my boy to build his confidence level up a little more he does well racing as is but a little extra power sure would help. We race against compareable bikes like the ttr 90 the xr70 and the suzuki 110 and he does great. I just want to get as much out of this ltlle machine as possible. Thanx for your reply I will try changing the sprokets.

I went down 2 teeth to a a 12 tooth on my son's PW80 and it goes good with my big ass on it. Suspension is definately limitted.

Great bike to learn the ropes on before going to the clutch, etc.

There was a recent thread here called "PW80 hop ups". It's got lots of good free mods.

Your best bet is to focus on the suspension first. It's woefully lacking.

The engine, while certainly not a top end screamer, makes decent bottom end and midrange. Just right for the chassis and begining rider.

I am rather curious about the FMF pipe that's available. I know that on most MX two strokes that the factory pipe is pretty good and that replacement pipes aren't worth the money unless you're after that last 1% of power. But on a PW80, the pipe seems to be exactly like they were in the early '70s.

Anyone have any real world experience with an FMF on a PW80?
