Hi,
ive seen people with fmf pipes and silencers on ds80's, but they dont specify in making them for ds80's, Do you have to modify somthing to make it fit?
I'd take the silencer off and try go to a shop and try and match one up with one a shop has in stock... I'd bet an RM pipe from the same year would fit... Worst case you might have to rig up some mounting points and that would be pretty easy to do... The two bikes might even have the same cylandars so the pipe would most likley fit into the cylandar... I had a DS as kid I bet an RM pipe and silencer would give it a nice boost...
at least the same cylendar... The bottom end is most likely the same also just different gearing... I'm sure the rm is ported differently but the exaust port I'd bet is the same and the pipe should fit onto the DS cylandar just fine... I don't know how you'd find out for sure unless you can go to a motorcycle junk yard and see the different parts... I know the DS expansion chamber is different than the RM and might not wrap around the DS frame like it does in the RM chassis... That would be the only real problem I could imagine happening... It's worth a try if you can return the parts if it does'nt work... what year is the DS?
I don't have a whole heck of allot going on right now at work... I was over at bike pics http://newserver.bikepics.com/suzuki/ and I was looking at the 81-84 or so DS and RM 80's and the only real difference looks like the RM has more suspension travel, higher ride height... they look identical otherwise, same everything... I doubt the pipes are even different...
My DS is 1983 (the only year with the DS written on the seat)
Yeah, i think the frame would get in the way of the pipe, because the DS's pipe comes sideways(left) out of the motor, the pipe then curves back around(right) the frame. I know somone that said he can re-shape that part of the frame.
