Hmmmm.... I thought you couldn't use the XR springs on that gen bike. What weight range are they good for on 89 - 94 KDX's? :) I have been looking for the .35Kg springs.

The XR400 springs are popular for two reasons:

1) At 530mm’s they are a “full length” spring (minimal spacer for preload);
2) They are cold wound and should be stronger.

The stock XR springs (’00-’02) are rated at .40kg however, you can get factory springs in almost any resistance you want. The XR400 springs are expensive. I just bought Progressive (brand, not wound) springs for about half the cost of stock Honda springs. While they aren’t cold wound I’m hoping the money saved will pay in the long run.

OK THESE SPRINDS ARE CLAIMED TO BE OUT OF A 97 XR 400. WILL THEY WORK IN A 91 KDX? SUPPOSED TO ONLY HAVE A COUPLE OF MONTHS RIDE TIME ON THEM...AND THEY ARE VERY CHEAP

You'll need to check the spec's of the springs you have. For a KDX you need a spring with a 37mm diameter. Since the '97 XR uses at Showa 43mm fork (like the KDX) you should be OK. The length, if short, can be adjusted with a spacer fabricated out of PVC with washers on the top and bottom.

BEFORE you flame me...

The KDX uses a 43mm KYB fork vs the XR's 43mm Showa. What I meant to type is that they are both 43mm forks and should use the same 37mm diameter spring. I think that the Showa fork in the XR uses a spring with a shorter free length and may require a spacer where as an after market spring can be bought at any length.
