Do any of you know anything on this shock clock by race tech.It looks and sounds intresting. I guess it goes for about a grand. just wondering if it works, and be worth the investment.

I saw it in a few weeks ago it would be great for road race testing , OK for practice off road testing in a controlled enviro , not really good at a race situation at all but is purpose designed just for testing . It would really be good for a closed track situation where you could video record the event on a timed basis and start both recordings at same time , then compare . It is pricey but if youre a tekkie or like a race team or susp specialist it may pay off , and you could charge customers for data acquisition and consultation .For those who havent seen it it is 2 cylinders with a sliderand some sort of photcell and 2 transducer mounted atop each cylinder The top ends of each cyl are mounted to the top of forl keg or seat bolt the lower ends are mounted to the axle clamp or in the rear the axle nut . As the suspension compresses and reacts a device stores the data and then you can download it to a computer and make a printout or a running graph for a period of time or session . Sort of like a seizemograph. The force and speed of the suspensions actions and reactions can be interpreted by the shape and depth of the graph. A tuner can deciper what he needs to do to make the suspension more or less reactive to suit the rider/conditions. The setup is somewhat fragile and from what I understand replacement parts are available for repairs .I dont know wheter Ill be ordering one right away but its PRETTY TRICK.

Thanks for that reply! I wonder if the software is included.wonder what kind of shaft speeds it can record unlike some shock dineo's that really can't measure extreme fast shaft speeds (thats what i was told)

thanks

I know this product since end of year 00, and it has proof to be useful if
you are doing the suspension testing.

Test rider may give you feedback of how the bike feel, but will never know
how far the suspension travel through the stroke.
And from the graph recorded, you can know how far the stroke goes, whether
it is bottoming or not.

Quite a useful piece of equipment, my 2 cents.

I was at RT back in 2000, and we tested the unit at Glen Helen. It definately performs as advertised. But as Deansfastway pointed out, I think its main drawback is trying to reference where on the track its recording. A video would definately help.

The durability is also a question. I think mounted on the forks is no problem, but in the rear there is a better way then the way they use. I know one of the guys who originally designed it before RT bought it, and he told me(just yesterday as a matter of fact)that there are a couple of different ways to measure the rear with out the big carbon fiber tube. I guess RT is in the testing stages right now.

I think its a great tool, but I'm going to wait till the get that part designed better.

Yeah as far as areference to the rear of the bike a sweep type sensor potentiometer like a auto type TPS could handle that ,just affix somehow to the swingarm pivot and BAM Hes reduced his mass significantly . Yeah if you could start the video recorder and the data aquisition at the same tyme the two could be compatred and you would see the bike and the action and reaction taken . Im sure Thede is thinking of something like this , From what I understand right now hes bringing out some new suspension tools to hit the market in early 03 and the will make a tuners work a bit easier, some are even in stock at R/T but not in any printed catalogs anywhere yet.

Yep thats true. Just like they have a newly designed Gold Valve for KYB's that not to many people know about. Its way plusher than even a regular GV. I've been having good luck in testing, but I'm still trying to dial in the bottoming control. While they do have valving charts available, they don't have any recommended settings yet, so I'm having to come up with my own for now.
