The lower tension setting or the thinner reed petals are the best for low-mid power. It is a compromise for top end performance most of the times. The v-force reed cage allows you to adjust the tension to soft or hard for that on purpose.

You can also choose those two-stage reeds. One of them is harder, so it will work in the peak-rpm range, and the other is more suitable to bend, so it will work in the slow flow stage. One goes on the top of the case, the other on the bottom, but I'm not sure which one... Boyesen does those, for example.
