"20-year-old Australian Chad Reed has won the final round of the Supercross Masters, held at the Superdome stadium in Sydney, Australia last night. The Yamaha USA factory riders raced through the night winning his three heats races, semi-final and the main event.
The night began with Reed taking on his cousin Craig Anderson (who will race for the YOT team in America in 2003). In a race that was full of excitement Anderson lead early, before Reed fought his way through for the win. For the 10.000 strong crowd the chance to see Reed is action was made all the better as he was entered in five races in the evening. The East Coast Supercross champion not only put together a flawless performance, he also did some practice laps aboard his Yamaha 450cc 4-stroke machine.
“It’s nice to ride in front of the crowd,” Reed said. “ I don’t get to come home too often and this is really a highlight for me. I was not surprised by the pace here tonight, we have some quick guy’s and that has not changed since I’ve been away.”
The final proved to be an easy night for Reed, although the early going saw some surprises. Reed gated off the pace, and worked his way into the lead within the first few minutes of the race. Within no time at all Reed had passed second placed Cameron Taylor, and set about lapping the complete field. By the end of the race Reed had in fact lapped everyone except for runner-up Taylor. Taking third place was Craig Anderson, who also picked up the Supercross Masters series victory with his podium place. Anderson was also making his last appearance in OZ, and is due to head to America to race the 2003 US series.
On crossing the line Reed flicked his CDR Yamaha sideway in a stylish move, then spent hours after the race signing autographs for the public. For Australian Supercross this was a night to remember.
Results: 1. Chad Reed (Yamaha) 2. Cameron Taylor (Hon); 3. Craig Anderson (KTM)"
Way to go Chad! :yeehaw:
