Imagine if the "Raising of the flag at Iwo Jima" memorial had been struck with this kind of crap. You wouldn't have names to put with the figures, and that is what the memorial should really be about. Those that were there in the picture, at that moment. It is an offense to the memory and personality of those that were in the picture at that moment that someone decides to replace them with a generic other person for the sake of PC'ness. The picture/image is the memento, the touchstone for the event, make clear in the explination around the picture who all were participating, but don't smear the image we all can recognize and gravitate to as people who lived in the time the image was made.
