Removing Odometer Cable

Does the hole in the pick-up on the hub need to be covered when removing the odometer cable (permanently)? If so, what's the best method.

that would work but i found a little black plug for it. I wonder if you could just take the whole black odometer assembly by the wheel of or not? I'm thinking not but what do yu guys think?

I used Super Blue grease (wheel bearing grease) in mine, just don't hold the pressure washer on it

I have heard they sell spacers to go in that space if you remove the stock odometer. A friend installed a panoram computer (www.trailtech.com I think) and he said they sell spacers (it was for a KTM but I think they make them for all brands).
