I'd try it. Grind off the welds, disassemble, repack, rivet or sheet metal screw/loc-tite it, and go from there. I'll bet it works and won't require a welder. I did this with an old FMF silencer from one of my vintage bikes and it worked well.

AbsoLOOTly, at that price I'd have no problem doing a little surgery. I pack all my own, and a few for others. I did one recently that had been stored for almost 35 years. I had to drill out the glass!

10 bucks or so for a whole roll of insulation, pack it , i have done this tons it works great

Thanks...this was an old post. I did grind off the tack welds, dug out the old packing and stuffed regular fiberglass home insulation in it. Sheet metal screwed it back together....voila...quiet again.
