Having had a barrel fail after it was replated and used in conjuntion with new psiton /rings /little end/etc , is it safe to re use the little end , gudgeon pin and piston ring #( visual inspection looks unscathed ) .
Having today rebuilt the engine after the platers ( should be wasters ) replated the barrel to fit the original used piston , with one new piston ring , one original old and new gudgeon pin / little end - NEW = 2 hours use but in the bike when it seized , there is a prenounced tapping nosie from the top end .
The bike appears to run ok , no smoke , with the compression back to the point when I decided to treat it to asome TLC - replate / new piston . Question is whats the tapping noise ? Is it safe to run for a period of time to determine if the plating will survive long enough to warrant chancing a new piston again . Another failure will financialy cripple me ? Anyone know if you can get a aftermarket piston to save me being ripped of by Husky prices - Bikes a 1996 Husqvarna WR250. :p
