I'm currently without a ride. My last bike was a 2002 cbr600f4i.
I had her for a year and a half before she got stolen from right in front of my house (no garage). I rode her almost every day to work and put in some serious weekend rides as well. I thought about getting another sportbike but with the birth of my third child, I've decided that I would be safer on the trails than on the road surrounded by 4000 lb cages. Also my 8 yr old son is really interested in mx. His bmx skills are above average. Not at all interesetd in pocketbikes. We saw them at Allsports GP in Va and it didn't change his mind. I'm looking to get each of us a bike. I'm considering a ttr90 or drz110 for him and ttr 125/230, crf 150/230, kdx200 for me. He can flatfoot the 90 with knees slightly bent so i think he might be able to handle the 110. I'm 5'7", 150 lbs. Will mostly trailride.
I'm also searching for places to ride close to Frederick, Md. Tomahawk mx is about 2-3 hrs from me (I heard). Budds Creek is about the same. So as you can see I NEED A LOT OF HELP!!!

Thank you and more power.

Thanks Matt for posting up a new thread.

Now where is Gomer when I need him. ;) Actually I think he is out playing at a couple of tracks this weekend so be patient. Weekends can be slow when the sun is out.

We have folks all around you so you should hear from a bunch.

Awww...I'm needed!

Don't have any idea about places to ride near Frederick. The only place I've been in MD in the last 20 years was The Landing over near Easton, but that's a drive and I don't think they have trails.

As far as sizing the bikes for kids, standing flat-footed on a bike implies it's too small. Most people are best fit with a bike that they can balance on their tip-toes.

As far as you, the CRF150 or 230 would be enough to get you through the trails and will both be rather bullet-proof with very little maintenance. The KDX will be a little more work with mixing gas, jetting, and possibly changing plugs, but the performance and handling is much better.

Yup, either it is raining or I got this and next confused when you were talking about going riding ...

Matt, Gomer will not lead you wrong.

Just ignore it if he shows up in a pink tutu though, the first time you meet him. He likes to dress for strangers.

hey fellow md'er. buds creek is a ball! for your son, go with the 110, hell be happier when he starts looking for more power and in the mean time, you can just find a way to restrict it. as for you, the 230 of kdx would be perfect for having some fun with your son. down in laurel is an old rock quarry area thats pretty huge. its called "the pits". lots of people ride there of all ages, pretty fun but the police are not fond of riders there.

I came across a couple of racetracks/trail areas close to hagerstown, md. Tomahawk Mx, and Mountaineer raceway, both in Inwood WV. Any feedback on either one? I'm planning to check it out when my schedule allows but any additional info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Tomohawk is a good place to start. They have track and trails. This time of year its only $15 per rider per day. They are adding additional tracks this year (or so I've been told). The Landing is tracks only and is currently $50 per rider per day :yikes:

Southern MD Dirt Riders (www.smdr.org) will fill 80 membership spots on April 2. The initial membership will be in what is called the Leased Property Chapter (LPC). It's a piece of property located in White Plains, MD (near Waldorf). We have plenty of trails, an oval, and a motocross track. There is also a "pee-wee" track for the little ones. The membership is only $35 & 2 "work" days a year. It's normally open either Saturday or Sunday, March thru October.

This is from our site:

There will be approximately 80 LPC openings this year. Sign-ups will be held at the Demarr road property from 9-4 on April 2nd. We will supply the membership applications at the Demarr property on a first come, first serve basis. Last year we filled 75 spots in 45 minutes. There were folks there as early as 6:00am…..so plan accordingly! Hope to see you there.
