Riding Trip over the Holiday Weekend - Honobia

Is anyone up for some riding this weekend. With this weekend being the 4th, there is a very good chance I can get away. As usual, I won't know for sure until the weekend gets closer. Come on Holiday, I need the riding time.

I was leaving it open depending on what was open for anyone else. It looks like I have a 3 day weekend. A Saturday trip to Munster would be a late start for me. I do not get off work until 2:00 am Saturday morning. I would be lucky to get to Munster or somewhere close by noon on Saturday. I would need a little sleep and then have to load up. I was even thinking of Rocky Ridge (never been there) or Barnwell (may stay the night).

Make a suggestion! What works for you or others? It is getting riding time that is important.

I'll be gone with my family Monday. It will have to be Saturday for me. I'm hoping to go somewhere early Saturday morning (and be riding by 8:00-8:30). I'll need to leave by 2:00.

It could be Muenster, Barnwell, or somewhere else within a couple hours of Dallas for me.

I was informed yesterday by my wife that she had the weekend off and we were going to the mountains. I guess my plans were changed for me. My boy prefers the mountains also. I was out voted. Sgifford, it looks like you need to early Saturday anyways. I guess we will meet again on the trail another day.

I am headed to Clancy's in Honobia. There are cabins with AC and tent camping. I will let everyone know if it is any good for riding. There is suppose to be trails there.

Let us know how it goes there and what the cost is. Cabins with nearby riding areas would be a great combination. Have fun.

I may just show up at Muenster and find someone to ride with.

Clancy's in Honobia

We had a great time! The cabins were clean with hot water and little kitchens. We paid $75 for the night for a full and twin bed cabin. Tent camping was $10. Some of the cabins were larger (cost ? - on internet). The internet site was a little misleading as far a location. The cabin and camping area was in town (if you can call it that) and a little small and crowded. It was all right next door to Clancy's general store. They had a fire works, a local country singer (needed improvement) and catfish fry going on over the fourth.

There was also another area with RV and test camping down the street. We found many nice open camping areas out along the creek and trails (bring you own toilet paper type).

The area was great for riding. It was all logging roads and hills. Some of the trails were newly cut while other were grown over, rutted, rocky, and challenging. There was a beautiful clear creek (small river) running through the valley that was cool and refreshing after a long ride. The creek really made the area nice, especially the flooded-over water crossings.

The only down side, if you were not prepared to pay, was a fee for riding in the area. It was $25 per rider per year for Texans (Okies only $6). It has to do with the county and Warehauser (spelling ?) owning most of the county. It was a registration for anyone (hunters and fisherman included) using the logging area.
