Help!
I have some great videos that people have sent to me on a DVD. However I can't get the files to open correctly. I have both a Mac and a PC.
The PC has Microsoft Moviemaker and muvee Autoproducer 4.0LE. My Mac has the usual video camera stuff.

Autoproducer reads the file from one input and the gives up with an error. Moviemaker doesn't even recognize the file. My Mac will not open files of this type.

The DVD plays on both platforms. The files on the DVD are:
Volume in drive D is DVD Video Recording
Volume Serial Number is F828-C56F

Directory of D:\

Will the Mac read any of these to use the Movie tools?

Are they commercial DVD's or home made ones?

You can't open those files individually. Genarally, Nero will rip the files if they aren't copy protected. To reduce dual layer DVD's to fit on a single layer DVD, you will need DVD Shrink.

You can also use Nero to rip the files to a hard drive folder and play them from there.

Not sure if this is valid for what you are trying to do, but I use software called Blind Write, it allows you to copy things that you normally would not. Remember not to copy copyrighted material.

The DVD is from one of our members (video of a SERA Hare Scrambles). I have one from the camera and one make by a member.
Will Nero let me copy a scene and make a video that can run on a web site (like Quicktime)?
Thanks,
Ed

Download Divx

Do you have Divx installed on your PC? I was unable to play some DVDs (avi files ) using windows media player until I downloaded it. Its a free download. worth a try http://www.divx.com/

I do some home video editing and I found a program that rips DVD files from any DVD.It is by Xillsoft...i think it's called dvd x ripper or something like that. You can even use it to rip MP3's from DVD movies. I have used it on alot of my Crusty Demons videos to pull of some of the soundtracks...just for backing up purposes of course.

Hope it works
