I had a similar problem once and found that even though the choke knob looked like it was fully depressed and off, it wasn't and it was running rich like you describe. I pulled the choke plunger off the carb just to look at it (looked fine) and after reinstalling it the problem went away. I'm still not sure what happened but something must have sprung back in place when I took the plunger out. [/QUOTE]
