Hey, I'm a new member and i wanted all your opinions....
I am 13, 195lbs, and 5'11

I wanted to know which bike is better a RM125 or KX125. THe reason i do not include any of the other 125's is because they are all 5speeds and i would prefer a 6. Which one has better features? enigne? hanlding?
Please help,
Zach

Yeah 909 the yellow with black plastics look pretty trick, I would go with the RM125 over the KX, From what the magazines say the RM has a great motor and that the KX had a very short Powerband which basically means you would be cluthing that thing to death, I mean you will have to use the clutch on all 125s but the wider the powerband the less you have to, You didn't mention what type of riding you are going to be doing, Woods,MX? Anyways I would go with RM, Matt

I have a 01 kx 125 and have had no problems, and I really like it and even thought he mag. rate it low i think it is a great bike. I ride mx and i would take a kx over a rm anyday. No offense to any of hte yellow riders out there.

DirtRydin: Are you familer with a Manual Clutch? On a 125 you will have to fan the clutch alot since they don't have much bottom end power so you have to pull the clutch in just enough to let it slip to keep the RPM's say in a turn or in tight woods, You should pick up on it pretty fast though. I would still get the RM125 over the KX, I think the KX looks better but stock v.s stock the RM I think would be better. But the KX is a great bike though. But another thing is you might want to consider something besides a 125 for the woods, You could look at the Kawasaki KDX200/220,Both are 2-strokes and awesome trail bikes, You can go to Canadian Daves just KDX forums on this site and check them out. I ride a 1991 Honda XR250R and Love the bike. If money is not an option you could also look at the KTM EX/C and MX/C series bikes, Maybe a KTM 200EX/C. Good Luck Matt

YEs I am firmiliar with a manual clutch. One of the reasons i want a 125 or something like a KDX etc. is because i want tto start getting into MX. ALso the trails aroudn here aren't too tight.
THanks for the help,
Zach

I'd got with the YZ the highest gear I hit 95% of the time on an mx track is 4th gear. 5th gear rarely gets used one my bike and when my old skewl CR (6 speed tranny) that gear get even used a lot less. The YZ out of all the 125's has the best bottom end I've ridden so far. I like them all but the yz definetly has one of the best overall motors.

Dirtrydin if the trails aren't to tight then go for the 125, like KXrider12 said he got a 2001 KX125 and loves it even though the mags gave it a low score, You have to be very careful with the magazine people because they have mostly pro riders testing and if something isn't PERFECT then they are going to put it down hard, I really say just pick a color and go with it, Whichever one you get a better deal on, Matt

Whoa MXP1MP thats a lot of mojo! Anyways between the KX and RM I would go RM. Two of my friends have 01' RM's and they're great bikes. I have the 01' YZ and we all like that as well. (The 01' Yz is a 6 speed tranny.) Another friend has an older KX, I think it's a 96 and it isn't very reliable for him. Good luck finding a bike.

if u can find a 2001 yz 125 they have the 6 speed trany. and are way better faster than the kx or rm. The rm's are very pipy and have a reputation for blowing up if not properly warmed up. go blue

No bike out of the big 4 brands is going to be way faster than the others.

That could refer to any two stroke bike, they all need to be warmed up before you ride hard.

DirtRydin: im not sure you want a 6 speed? I had a 6 speed in my old yz and like the 5 speed in my rm so much better I will never go back. The gears wind out longer and your not shifting every 4 seconds.

I ride a 1994 RM 125 and its got 6 gears.
You aint gonna get past 3rd gear in the trails.
If you want an MX you need ****loads of room to
go through all the gears. I ride upstate NY on 400 acres of
adandoned farmland. I got around all 400 acres in 5 minutes
and did not get past 4 th gear. The RM needs to run with very
high rpms and if you dont dont ride it hard you will carbon up
and foul your plugs. If you ride trail go with a 4 stroke.
If you want high performance you will pay for it when the piston
ring needs to be replaced. About 40 hours for life of piston ring.
The 4 stroke does not need constant head work and is more
consistant and less to maintain. Its a trade off. Less performance
on a 4 stroke and less to maintain. 2 stroke high performance and
more to maintain. I have been riding suzuki rm since I was 16.
I am now 41. They all have a mind of their own. The kawi is a good
competitor so is the yz and honda 2 strokers. The only thing I cant keep up with is the czec bikes. Damn they are hot !!
