Seeking On/Off Bike - Need Advise

1) Am 6 feet tall, 204 lbs
2) Mild riding, (GPS a bunch of Mt. Bike trails)
3) 99% 'game-trails'
4) 15 years of riding experience
5) Will not race
6) Am mechanically inclined
7) Prefer 4-stroke
8) Local dealers are Yamaha and Honda
9) Want to spend less than three grand for a new or used bike
10) I live in BC, Canada's Okanagan Valley
11) I am 41 year old
12) Don't need much power, just want to drag my ass up a bunch of game trails so I can GPS / digital-image / describe them for a Mt.Bike trail book that I am publishing. I very much need to get a bike that I can put plates on in order to avoid having to trailer it through town...

Any and all input would be very much appreciated.

i would suggest a xr250 or 400 or a ttr 250 just because of the fact that they're nearly bulletproof.
