Shock/Spring adjuster wrench

Hey guys I ended up buying the KDX. How do I adjust the rear shock to my size. The only thing I need to do to it is lower the spring so it will fit me I weight 145 and it is to stiff. It wont go down any when I get on it. Does any one have a spring wrench that I can use. I went to the nearest cycle shop and they told me just to use a hammer and a screw driver. I tried but it seem like it is stuck. If any one has one may I use it. I am a very honest guy and will return it as fast as i can. Please email me and let me know. The bike is a 2003 Kawasaki KDX 200. Before I can ride I need to adjust the suspension. Please help

Hose the double nut setup down with some WD40 (or the like). After a few minutes drift the top nut lefty loosey with the hammer and screw driver making sure that you're not also contacting the lower nut. It'll eventually give.

If you're really only 145lbs I'd suggest a softer spring. The stock is a 5.0kg. You'll probably need to go somewhere in the 4.6kg range to get the proper sag and action that you're looking for.

Lot's of people use the hammer and drift method but it's time consuming and messes up the nuts. BTW if I'm standing on the chain side of my bike, Turning the nut LEFT or towards the front end I am TIGHTENING the nut. Left is not always lose, Right is not always tight. Point is COUNTER-CLOCKWISE loosens and CLOCK-WISE tightens all the time no matter where you or the nut is in space!

I usually use a long ratchet extension. Screwdrivers tend to damage the nuts.

Ok.....looking down (from the sky) at the top end of the shock drift the top nut counter-clockwise (after all, it's not a left hand thread). That will raise it off of the bottom nut (hence loosening it). That of course is assuming that the bike is not upside down for some reason.

Without going to a softer spring (designed for your weight) you still won't be happy with the results. Get the softer spring.....trust me.

screwdriver and hammer work pretty well but the device you are looking for is a spanner wrench. get one... their cheap.
