My son has an 87 KDX 80 that is just a blast of a bike. I put the front end of a KX80 (94 I think, don't really recall) on it and rebuilt the engine (new rod and crank bearings, wiseco piston, and replated the cylinder). Pic below.

The rear shock is the issue at the moment. It really sags. I haven't determine yet if stiffer spring would help or it's it just done (it is almost 30 years old). IN any case, I'm looking for options.

Does anyone know if I can use a shock from something more modern? I was thinking maybe the shock and linkage from a KX 80. Maybe even the swingarm if necessary.

The engine on the KDX is so buttery smooth for the woods making it easy for my son to ride. And the big is much lighter feeling than the XR70 he moved up from.

Thanks,

mag

For anyone else looking for a shock for a KDX80, I got one made for me by Klaus at EPM. It is a YSS shock. It is not adjustable expect for the spring preload, but is rebuild-able. Cost me $220.
