how much more vulnerable is it than the stock pipe to dents. rode 400 miles on it since i got it in a lot of rocks. still have no dents on stock pipe.

If you ride in rocks sooner or later your pipe will get dented! Even not in rocks (my KTM pipe got its first dent on my second ride - a log jumped out and got it!).

Consider a pipe guard - the flexi aluminum ones, or perhaps a carbon fiber one. I was told however that in some cases a pipe gaurd while it will prevent the dents, ends up resulting in "tweaking" pipe alingment when it is hit (the energy gets trasnfered to the mounting points rather than being absorbed by the dent being made). Keep in mind, i was told this by Pacific Crest Pipe repair. According to them, it is much harder to fix an alignment tweek than a "simple" dent. They may be biased, but I think he was not just yankin my chain about that.

i wouldnt put a carbon fibre one on. because if it dents the alum ones like a pop can, then it'll surely tear the piss outta the carbon fibre one.

sorry but i cant belive you on that. I have an e-line carbon fiber pipe guard. Although they are expensive it save me about a 3inch deep dent. The guy i bought it from spilled the bike on the road. He bent the steel barkbusters about 2 inches in and he slammed it to the ggound on the pipe side. everytthing from the fender to the silencer has a big gash in it. The guard may not look the pretties but it saved me a whole lot of trouble and my pipe was kept safe. and thats my story :blah:

Get either the carbon or the aluminum, but get something. Carbon is about 100 and heavy duty aluminum will cost around 40 or 50. I look at it this way, even though it adds weight it's so nice to not have to buy a new pipe for that one day you land on that rock just right. I only know two ways but I'm sure there are more in dent fixing. First is you cap one end add around 70 psi (via air compressor) to the other end (make sure it's air tight.) and use a blowtorch on the outside of the pipe which will effectively iron out your dings. Then I've heard of some cats actually cutting out the bad section and welding in a new cut section from another pipe or pipe material.

i have found a pipe guard for 30 bucks. it is identical to the moose aluminum one for 60. when I get my pipe 30 bucks is going to save me from spending another 230 for a whole new pipe.
