Should I get this 125?

I've been wanting to get a more track-oriented bike, but my funds are limited, and I have not come across any 250's. I now see a '02 YZ125 for sale about 20 miles away, just in my price range. I want to do a few races at the local track, but would have to race the kdx in the 250 class, not to mention the lousy suspension. I have 1800$ dollars, so should i do it? Also, I am too large for a 125, I know, but at the local level that should'nt matter, I'm 6'1'', 220 pounds. The YZ has new plastics, piston & rings, PR2 susp and is 1800 OBO.

It doesn't look too bad from the picture. If you are a good BS'er I bet that you could get them down on the price a little bit. Go and check it out at least, and sit on it, possibly take it for a ride. If the suspension was done, make sure that it wasn't done for 130lb'er, and if it is, make sure you calculate that into your modification costs, too.

L@@ks good and if it runs good and the rear shock isn't springy thats not a bad price at all but like pyro said, you could probably talk em down to at least $1500, that would give some extra to fix any problems you incounter. Besides the running of it the 2nd thing I always check is the suspention, a springy rear shock is going to need rebuilding, just the oil seal alone for the rear shock OEM is over 70 bucks.

a 125 will do what you want it to do whether your in the woods or on the track :cool: . that bike also looks like it has an aftermarket pipe, unless it came stock silver which is very unlikely. i would try to get him down to $1500.

I wouldn't go over $1500, either. I got my 02 RM 125 in May 2005 for $1500 with Hinson clutch, Bills pipe and silencer, new top end, nearly new tires and new chain/sprockets.

PR2 is a suspension company. You send them your shock, and/or forks, and they set them up to your riding style. IE: Woods, MX, SX, Beginner, Intermediate, Pro, and then to your particular weight and height. If you are short and light they can put softer springs in, if you are heavier than reccomended for the stock springs, fork or shock, they will put heavier ones in and then revalve, set up rebound and dampening. This is a good thing as long as the rider is somewhere around your size. Like I said before, you might be alot heavier than the person you're buying from, if this is the case, you will need to work on the suspension to get it right for you. Hopefully, you may get lucky and it will work for you. As for price, check, www.kbb.com ($1410 trade in) and www.nada.com ($1450 low price). There prices vary greatly by location though, as stated before. You could probably get him down to $1400 at the very least, using those sites as reference. Good Luck!! :nod:

You may think it is retarded, but it is not all that infathomable. They wouldn't make heavier springs for 125's if everyone that rode them was in the 120-150lb range. It probably won't much matter, as he stated in his original post, because he is going to be racing at a local level. Most likely, just starting out, the C class is where he will be, and skill has more to do with it than size. He wants to have FUN, and not get in over his head. Lighten up. When he gets faster and more comfortable, then he can sell it for a 250. Its not like he's gonna squash it like a bug or anything.... :coocoo: Shut up and ride. :nener:
