why not? Imma fat ******* and I don't let that keep me from riding. Don't let age stand in your way. Excuses to NOT do something are always there. If you go with the excuses you be left wondering "what if?".

Now that doesn't mean that you have to race balls out and wad yourself up either. Go out and have fun.

"You dont stop riding because You get old, You get old because you stop riding." You can decide if its true or not (saw it on a tee shirt).

I would race if I had the right kind of insurance. I will be 60 this year. But I don't, so I trail ride.

Welcome to the site

I am not a good one to comment as I only race to breakfast and the bathroom ...

Enjoy what keeps you young.

Hey Joe,
I'm 49 and returned to dirt riding 3 years ago after 20+ years absence. But I haven't let this stop me; I recently committed to ride on a team in the Perry Mtn. (Al.) 24-Hr. Challenge. Not a MX, but I'll do one of those before the 24 hr. sometime. It is amazing, when you set a goal that you WANT to achieve, how it can motivate you!

I last roadraced in 1989, last harescramble was probably '84. I've lost some weight, committed to LOTS of riding (FUN!)
Sure, I'll suck wind some and be sore, a bunch. But what could possibly be better?

Go for it, but use the wisdom you have gained!
Ken

I say if you want to race, go for it. I think Id stick to an age class though. At least that way you wont be racing against a bunch of punk kids.

Check out the Damn Yankee Dirt Riders forum for some folks in your area.

They are trying to figure out where to hold a spring ride, so get your name in the hat.

Damn kids. :coocoo: Go for it Joe.

I've got close to 20 years on you and still get excited when it's time to go riding/racing. Most of my riding buddies my age have quit and they don't do anything anymore. It's hard to get them to go anywhere or do anything that does not include a lot of sitting or drinking or the general behavior of an average sloth. They have nothing to look forward to in their lives.

Many older riders have come back to the sport in their 40's and 50's after rasing a family and building their lives. Look into the vet classes. The tracks are tamer and so are the riders. You don't have to worry about some overexuberant 16 year old taking you and half the pack out in the first turn. Be sure to get all of the best safety gear that you can. The stuff that is available today is excellent.

As far as being from Western Pa. I'm originally from McKeesport. If you are from Pittsburg, I'm sure you know where McKeesport is. It's a good place to be FROM. ;)

Most of my buddies are beer drinking sloths theses days too. I don't know what happened they use to ride but now... :coocoo:

Hey I like beer, guess you can tell by my avitar  but I like to ride way way more. I just don't understand a lot of former riders.

Anyhoo... go race, have fun, life is too short to wounder if you should.
