ok...this may sound stupid but when did new bikes start comming from the factory w/o a nut on the inner tube @ the top side of the rim? :

You don't want a nut there. If you tighten that down and the tire slips around the rim at all, it will rip the valve stem out of the tube. If you leave it loose (like the Hondas come with a rubber grommet to keep dirt out and hold the stem out), you can see if the tire slips because the valve stem will lean one way or the other.

Leave it to Gomer to know which nut to leave off a motorcycle. ;)
