I am just curious how many of the dirtriders on this forum ride snowmobiles as well as bikes. Personally, I ride a '96 XR 250 and a '98 MXZ 583. Also, which do you guys like better? I prefer snowmobiling because of the rush that it never ceases to give me :aj: (I started out on a '69 Ski-Doo Olympique so you can imagine the difference between the that and the MXZ). Dirt bikes are a new experience for me, I just got my XR this spring. So how about you guys? Do you ride both and if so what do you ride and which do you prefer?? *Winter Rules*

I do both...but most of the time I just stud up the bike and go out on the ice.

I do both i switch sleds everyyear becaus eof our dealership. this year i rode a prox 440 ni like botyh equally

I have an '02 MXZ700 Renegade. If I had to choose between the two, the sled would be gone in a heart beat. I can ride my bike at least nine months of the year. The sled is usually only two to three months.

I do. 97kdx200 and a 1980 el tigre 6000. You see what takes priority though.

I do both but just because my wife likes sleds. I don't get too excited about them, but it is better then sittin' at home. I'd rather go skiing!

2001 cr 125 and a 91 Indy 500sp :aj: I like sleds but the last few winters from October to April the weather is crappy for bikes, and just as bad for sleds. But given a choice I'd move some place warm during the winter and go racing :p

I used to have a sled. Had it two years, rode about 200 miles a year, 200 miles a day. That's right, I got one good ride a year and walked around the stupid thing in the garage the other 364 days. Couldn't sell it fast enough.

Anyone seen that new sled thats more like a bike? it actually has forks on the front ski and it sits more like a bike. I forget who makes it now.

It is a Snow Hawk, I have not ridden one but I did see two of them at a local
sled event last summer. They had a wood chip track set up... I think I could be convinced to like one of those!!!

It is heavy and such compared to a bike but compared to a regular sled it is nervonia in my opinion.

I seen a race with these snow hawks and it was alot more fun to watch. i do ride both being that i am from Mich. I do have alot of toys. From the Honda 350x 3-wheeler to the 2 85' kdx 200's and 96' kdx 200,Honda vf500f interceptor, to the old 79 440 scorpion sled that i ride alot. The thing has hardly any suspension but it starts up everytime. I even have pulled my friend home occasionally that owns a phazer. I do love riding , it doenst matter what it is as long as it makes noise and moves, me no care!!!! Honda ( i beleive) has a sled now with a motorcycle motor in it. i think its like a 1000cc with dual exhaust coming out the back like the new v-twin Rc-51(cant remember the name) I think its that exact motor! But i will take a 2-wheeler over anything else anytime.

About that bike thing I once saw a super modified SX250 with tracks and skies... looked like fun.

I rode snowblowers back in the old days. But only because my buddy was a snowsmobile dealer as well as a dirt bike dealer. He was usually stuck with a few Polaris machinas so I would get an invite to go snowplowing at least once a year.

Let's see, I rode off a cliff into a river one year. Crashed uugly on a perfecly straight road and flipped the sled end-over-end about 10 times. Oh, one year I didn't crash, but that was the year that Ron rode under a fence at about 1:00 in the morning. Busted up a perfectly good hood/windshield and didn't do Ron much good either.

Does Polaris still make the Indy 650? Those things are scary fast, but they sure are fun, sound pretty good with three expansion chambers too.

Nope on the 650..they upgraded a while ago to a 680 with case reed induction :), but now only twins are available.

I ride both and I can actually get 6 months of riding out of each one. Currently I have my KDX and a '02 MXZx 440. As far as which one I prefer it is hard to determine. We have some of the best snowmachine riding in the world as we average 300" of snow at sea level. Dirt bike riding is just okay. It consists of lots of rocks, woods, and not a whole lot of areas to ride in because of the mountains. To me it's a toss up. I probably lean towards bikes because I stick with it since they are so fun even though the conditions arn't the best. But then my KDX was my first brand new bike since '88 and in the in that same time frame I purchased 6 new snowmachines.

I have a 700 mach1 skidoo...ditto on rooster's remarks...some years we get very little use out of the sleds here. Snowmobiling is a sport that revolves around a temporary, deviant weather condition (in Iowa anyway)! We go to northern Wisc. every year, that makes it worthwile to keep the sled.

Anyone else notice how your biking skills carry over to the sled? Finding the best line, etc.

I have trouble with thinking the sled is just a MX bike for the snow...the suspension hates me for it

yea, and when landing jumps you get that tripod action, reminds me of jumping a honda atc full throttle in reverse sitting backwards, only with skis instead of tires, and a track inst....oh, never mind!

My friend rides my dirtbikes during the summer and i ride his snowmobile in the winter, he has a polaris. I dont know if id ever buy one though, unless i moved up north like in canada or something, there fun though.

Even up here in Canada you don't always have great snowmobiling weather. Last winter i rode our 96 Ski-Doo Grand Touring about 4 times. That also including my dad busting it up. He was going down the side of a ditch and he didn't see the culvert that was sticking out. The whole snowmobile became about 6 inches shorter.
